What is Peetako?
Peetako is a free virtual pet you raise in your browser. Your pet is a cute gecko with a rounded-square face, and it comes in two kinds: an Organic rainforest gecko, or a Robot gecko built in a riverside workshop. Its story, places and food all come from Malaysian Borneo.
There is no account and no email. When your Peetako hatches you choose its Call Code (like PTK-TOKAY88) and a 6-digit PIN. Those two are all you need to remember. Lose the PIN on every device, and nobody can care for your pet again.
How to play
- Hatch an egg and pick Organic or Robot.
- Choose your Call Code and a PIN, and keep the PIN safe.
- Come back regularly to feed, clean, warm (or cool) and play with your gecko.
- Watch it climb tiers as it ages — from Hatchling to Ageless in about two months.
- Earn coins, dress it up with Borneo cosmetics, catch fireflies and visit friends.
Age is power
A Peetako has no maximum lifespan. The older it gets, the higher its tier, and the longer it can survive on its own: a Hatchling lasts two days without care, while an Ageless Peetako (Day 60) lasts two weeks. If the survival window runs out, it hibernates for up to 3 days a month, and only falls when those run out too. A Peetako that lived 30 days or more leaves a Legacy Egg for a fresh start. After a month as Ageless, you may also choose Ascension: retire your Peetako to the Hall of Legends with a Legacy Score.
Born in Malaysian Borneo
Organic Peetako eat kelkatu (termite alates) and bask under a lamp because geckos are cold-blooded. Robot Peetako charge on Hydro Cells powered by the Rajang River and need coolant to stop overheating. As your pet grows, its backdrop travels across Malaysian Borneo: a longhouse, a kampung garden, the sago gardens of Mukah, the rainforest of Danum Valley, the fireflies of the Kinabatangan, the bat exodus at Mulu, the sea at Semporna, the Bario highlands and finally the summit of Kinabalu.
Your Peetako shows how it feels: a smile and floating hearts when it is happy, a thought bubble when it is hungry, Z letters when it is sleepy and a little rain cloud when it is sad. Its sky follows your own clock, from dawn to night.
Friends, coins and fireflies
The first Feed, Clean, Warm (or Cool) and Play of each day, a daily check-in and every new tier earn coins. Spend them on a beaded headband, a terendak hat, a pua sash, firefly wings or a new backdrop — no real money, no lucky draws. Play five mini-games, from catching fireflies in Tangkap Kelip-kelip to climbing a tapang tree in Panjat Pokok, for coins and a spot on each game's daily leaderboard. Share your Call Code so friends can Pamper your Peetako, send it a gift or challenge it to a friendly battle where nobody loses anything.
Fun fact: the English word "gecko" comes from the Malay gekok, which imitates the call of the big tokay gecko. The small house gecko says chik-chak.
